Chorus Doubles Scholarship Opportunity

Normandy, Mo. – The Ambassadors of Harmony chorus announced the winner of its 2018 college scholarship to a packed house of 1,600 youngsters and their families at a free concert capping this year's teen Acappellooza Summer summer camp.

This years winner is Zachary Blough, a Christian High School graduate pursuing music at Missouri Baptist University.

The week-long camp, now in its fifth year, immerses young singers in a cappella at the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus. For more than two decades, AOH has awarded the college scholarship to young men in the St. Louis area who pursue music education. But last night, the chorus announced it would begin awarding a second scholarship to young women interested in vocal music.

AOH's move to open scholarships to female singers comes on the heels of a June 19 announcement by the Barbershop Harmony Society (a traditionally male organization begun in 1938) to welcome women as members, and to integrate women's and mixed choruses into the society's coaching and competitive programs.

“We are so excited to encourage young singers, and thrilled that we can double our impact on future music leaders with our scholarship,” AOH President Tim Myers said.

Applications for the 2019 scholarship will open up after the beginning of the next school year. To apply, go to: https://aoh.org/scholarship/
